How can it be May already?? I’m pretty sure I just got done taking down my Christmas decorations, so it seems kinda shocking that it is already May. But since I am pretty sluggish about getting my house organized in any sort of way it could just be that I am waaaay behind on getting the winter décor down. Which is one of the reasons why I enjoy planning, it kinda, sorta keeps me on track with what is going on around me.
Being incredibly dyslexic I find that making a monthly layout gives me not only a visual way of looking at things I may need to add to my budget as well but also gives me the extra bonus of being a way of kinesthetically getting my extra budget needs into my brain.
For example, I know just by looking that I am going to have to budget for the following things:
Softball games. 50.00- I need to add the cost of driving into town and money for a bucket of ice. (it gets scorching hot in AZ.) And Cracker Jack’s, it’s the only way I make it through the game without screaming like a lunatic. Cost: 50.00.
Mother’s Day. Presents for my mom, my MIL and my husbands grandmothers. Usually I try to buy plants as they are all big on gardening and you can usually find lots on sale this time of year. Cost: 100.00.
We are leaving for a week to go to CA for my sister’s wedding and are planning on stopping at a few places along the way. So I will need to add money for hotels, gas, snacks for the car, (These I buy before we leave so we don’t pay the expensive gas station prices.) souvenirs, dining out, wedding present, etc.. While we have been saving up for this trip I do need to make sure that I have enough money in the vacation account to cover everything that we might need.
Piano competition. The fee of the competition as well as extra gas money. Cost: 40.00
Track meets. Since the school where we lives has to travel so far to the track meets they stop and eat before heading home. Cost: 30.00
Branding also starts in May. This means lots and lots and lots of ice to pack the food in as well as to have to have to hand out to help keep everyone cool. Because the days are long and everyone is working hard, our grocery bill will go up for making breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for the crew. As well as water and Gatorade to keep people hydrated. That is easily another 300.00 added to our grocery bill. It’s amazing to see how much more my kids and husband (and myself) eat during the days that we brand. I am convinved I gain more weight branding than I do during Christmas. Additional laundry soap, body soap, shampoo is also needed. Everyone comes home smelling like cow and covered in dirt so we shower at least twice a day and go through laundry like mad. Cost: 350.00
With the end of the school year happening in May I usually try to send something as a thank you gift for the teachers at the school. I know I would lose my mind if I had to homeschool I am incredibly thankful for those teacher who are willing to teach my kids day in and day out. This year I sending baked goods so this will increase my grocery bill by just a little bit.Cost: 20.00
So now I can see what is going on in the month of May I need to make sure that 590.00 is budgets for these expense’s as well as everything else that we have on our budget. keep in mind that these are estimates and the cost could be higher or lower. This way I can make sure that everything is covered so we don’t have as many unexpected expense’s surprise us as the month goes on.
